Planning Your Sign Project
This is the first step in getting your project to production. Starting here you can determine the services and products that will be needed to produce your sign(s).
Don't Leave the Signs Until Last!
A consistent issue with signage is that it is commonly set aside to the end of the project planning phase or is a secondary thought within a renovation. However, it should be considered as a primary part of the planning phase since the sign (though modest) is the first impression that the public receives of the building which serves as an "education facility" of true worship in their community.
For some visitors, an exterior sign serves as an invitation to and reflection of what they will see on the inside of a building. Poor, outdated signage may present a poor impression to the community.
Deciding the Project Scope
Something to consider in your planning process should be the scope of the sign project you are planning. At KHSignage we strive to accommodate all Kingdom Hall sign project types including - but not limited to:
- Single Sign Projects
- Adjunct Signs (adding to existing signs)
- Complete Sign Packages
- Custom Designed Sign Packages
Planning Considerations
For your sign project, the following factors should be considered:
Budget vs. Design
Early in the planning process, it should be determined which element drives the decision of your project. For some congregations, budget is the deciding factor and for others it is the design of the sign. For instance, in some areas, the local architecture will dictate a more upscale design.
Local Sign Ordinances and Regulations
We recommend that a copy of the local sign ordinance and regulations be obtained for your reference. Depending on the installation location of the sign, permits may be required. Additionally, some congregations may desire directional or other signage be installed off of the Kingdom Hall property. If this is the case for your congregation, we recommend that all potential sign locations be verified against local or state sign ordinances and regulations.
State/Local DOT Regulations
Where signs will be installed in the DOT (Department Of Transportation) Right-of-Way, the DOT ordinances will be the determining factor as to the maximum size, height and eventual placement of your Kingdom Hall and other signs.
DIG Numbers
According to state regulations, if your sign installation requires digging in the ground, a DIG Number must be obtained prior to digging. Adequate time must be allowed so that all underground utility lines may be marked - free of charge - and to prevent undesired consequences or interrupted utility services. DIG Numbers are free and may easily be obtained by calling 811.
Each state has different rules and regulations governing digging, some stricter than others. Please visit the 811 website to find state-specific information as well as links to submit an online digging request where available in the US and Canada: http://www.call811.com/state-specific.aspx
Design Only, Fabrication Only or Design/Build
You may elect to use our Design Only, Fabrication Only or Design/Build services.
Design Only
Design Only is provided for congregations in need of designs only, but another vendor will fabricate the sign locally. This service is fee based and designs are purchased as a standalone package and become your property.
Fabrication Only
Fabrication Only is provided for congregations that already have a sign design/drawing(s) but are in need of sign fabrication. This service is fee based and fabrication and shipping are purchased as a standalone package.
